Biography
The highly specialized manner in which science is conducted yields very fascinating information, that unfortunately can quickly become niche and inaccessible. Science communication to a more general audience can increase the applicability of findings, or at the very least generate interest in the topics discussed, whether it is about health, the environment, social sciences, or anything else in between. LDOS moves especially toward this latter idea, and I really appreciate the mission to make "bite-sized" chunks that can be fun, interesting, and accessible.
Why is science communication important to you personally?
Science communication is an important part of any scientist's career, whether in industry, academia, or in the government. As I move toward being a professor, I see science communication being important as a mentor. Being able to communicate science to a broader audience can both help me teach students about my own work, and moreover help me connect students to work that most interests them.
