Brain Food

What your brain needs might just be… under the sea!

This is Sandra Tsing Loh with the Loh Down on Science.

Alzheimer’s is a devastating disease that causes the brain to degenerate. And for reasons still unknown, almost two thirds of patients are women. Why is that?

Enter Asger Wretlind and team from King’s College London. They collected blood samples from nearly nine-hundred people — half with Alzheimer’s – even mild symptoms – and the other half healthy.

Results? Women with Alzheimer’s had significantly LOWER levels of unsaturated fats rich in Omega-3s — the healthy fats found in fish and soybeans.

So don’t forget the salmon! Omega-3s may be a crucial part of the Alzheimer’s prevention puzzle!
