Biography
Bahareh Sorouri grew up in Southern California, where she earned her AA in Biology, Chemistry, and Physical Science from Irvine Valley College. She later transferred to UC Irvine where she completed her undergraduate education as an Honors Program alumna and UC Regents Scholar with a BS in Genetics. Now at UC Irvine, Bahareh is an Ecology and Evolutionary Biology Ph.D. student in Dr. Steve Allison’s microbial ecology lab. She is a National Science Foundation Graduate Research Fellowship Honorable Mention recipient. Her work focuses on how environmental microbes will adapt to climate change. Environmental microbes cycle essential elements that keep all organisms alive. She is interested in the microbial defense against stressful environments and how stress response tactics affect global nutrient cycling.
Why is science communication important to you?
Science is exciting! Oftentimes, when scientists talk about their research, it is difficult to understand. I strive to make science accessible to everyone. Communicating scientific information in a fun, clear way will inform people about incredible discoveries! When equipped with scientific knowledge, people can make more informed decisions for their lives, health, and planet.
