Biography

Jonathan received his B.S. in Chemistry from California State University, Northridge. As an undergraduate, he analyzed key DNA repair proteins in a biochemistry lab. Now, he is an incoming PhD student in research lab of Dr. Nick Pannunzio, studying how DNA damage leads to cancer. Outside of lab, he enjoys taking care of his fish tank, taking care of house plants, hiking, and gaming.

Why is science communication important to you personally?

Throughout my life I’ve realized that I can help people get the information they need to live a happier and healthier life through science communication. For example, explaining the properties of cancer to others in my life helped them relieve their anxieties about it. I also understand that it is critical for someone to have knowledge of new science findings, especially when their health is on the line.
