Feeling the Heat

Will the future be too hot to handle? Uhhhh….

This is Sandra Tsing Loh with the Loh Down on Science.

Climate change is sometimes a HOT topic. But what does the weather forecast?

Luke Grant and team at Vrije Universiteit Brussel are HEATING things up. They modeled how many people will experience extreme weather using a century’s worth of data.

And what happens if the planet warms by four degrees Celsius within eighty years?

Then ninety percent of children born in 2020 will live through extreme heat waves – that’s over one-hundred million children! Criminy!

Climate change is and will be a lived reality for everyone, especially more vulnerable groups.

Jeez, thinking about that, it’s hard to stay cool.
