I know it’s hot, but don’t wipe your sweat away! It’s valuable information!
This is Sandra Tsing Loh with the Loh Down on Science.
Wearable sensors, like smartwatches and skin patches, already track heart rate, sleep, and mood. They can also measure stress and glucose! But most are single-use. And detect only one of these markers.
Enter Jerome Rajendran and team from UC Irvine. They developed a flexible skin sensor that measures cortisol, glucose, and lactic acid. All from sweat! It even connects to a smartphone!
This device showed ninety-nine point nine percent accuracy! And strong reliability! It could help monitor chronic disease and stress continuously in medicine and sports.
Hear that? Sweat isn’t a pesky nuisance; it’s a lifesaver.
