ADAP! Ever heard of it?
This is Sandra Tsing Loh with the Loh Down on Science.
The AIDS Drug Assistance Program, or ADAP for short, provides medication for people with HIV. Are YOU in need of this info?
Kathleen McManus and team from the University of Virginia wanted to see who’s been participating. They ran statistical tests using state-level data collected in 2008 and 2021.
And? The number of people supported by ADAP has increased by over fifty percent between 2008 and 2021. Yet ADAP is still underutilized by African Americans and female-identifying people with HIV.
Researchers can now promote and expand ADAP support to address these groups! Now THAT’S worth knowing! Maybe Bruce Springsteen can write their jingle… Is he still relevant?
