But can AI perform… open heart surgery?!
This is Sandra Tsing Loh with the Loh Down on Science saying… not quite. But it could lend a helping hand!
Sometimes blood flow is interrupted by a narrowing of the heart’s main valve. It’s called Aortic stenosis.
The fix? A tiny replacement valve… delivered through a thin tube. But choosing the right size for each patient is tricky!
Enter Shawn Sun and Leslie Yeh from UC Irvine.
Using 3-D scans, AI tools can measure the valve opening and recommend the right fit!
In over ONE THIRD of cases, AI helped doctors adjust valve sizes or placements. Some AI models even predict survival DURING surgery! This could help surgeons make informed decisions in seconds!
Now that’s what I call HEART-ificial intelligence!
