Spray and Save

Is your surfboard cracked, bruh? No need to trash it!

This is Sandra Tsing Loh with the Loh Down on Science.

Fiberglass is a lightweight, strong material used in a variety of industries. When damaged, the surface remains intact but weak, leading to excess waste.

Enter Ibnaj Anni [ib-NAHJ AH-nee] and the Mechanical Engineering team from Rowan University.

They developed a cold spray to repair damaged fiberglass. The spray is applied to the surface and flows into the cracks. It seals and prevents further cracking. They tested the spray on cracked fiberglass samples.

And? The cold spray could restore up to eighty percent of the material’s original strength!

Never fear weak fiberglass with this spray. Now let’s catch a tasty wave!
